Prison Ministry

In October, 1994 I went on my first weekend with Bill Glass Ministries into Angola Prison outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After my first program in prison, I got in a van to go to the next unit and the driver asked me if I had ever seen a prison cemetery.I told him that I hadn't and then he stopped the van. There was a prison cemetery, so we got out and began to look for the names on the white crosses, but there were no names, just a prison number and the date the person had died. I went back home and shared that incident with my wife Barbara and she said how sad that a man or woman could live their whole life of this earth and all they had to show for it was a white cross with a prison number on it. She said that I needed to write a song about that. I told her that God had to give me the song. Almost a year later on my way to Itasca, Texas I stopped in the Elite Cafe in Waco, Texas and got a pen, a glass of tea and a napkin and I wrote the song. God spoke to heart as if to say that while some of those men were locked up, they were set free and they are no longer a number on a white cross but a name in the Lamb's Book of Life and They May Know My Number, But Jesus Knows My Name.

I continue to go with Bill Glass Champions for Life into the jails and prisons of this land and God has truly blessed. Bill Glass made the statement that he was afraid that I was going to get too famous and I wouldn't want to got into the prisons anymore and I had breakfast with Bill the next morning and told him that I heard what he said, but my question was, "If I actually do get famous, can I still go in the prisons with you."

I want to keep doing what God is blessing and I encourage you to do the same. If God is blessing your service to Him, then don't stop, keep doing it. God bless you as you serve our Savior. Clifton

THEY MAY KNOW MY NUMBER,

BUT JESUS KNOWS MY NAME

WORDS AND MUSIC BY CLIFTON JANSKY

Song available on Lord Bring Us Back CD

I’VE MADE SOME MISTAKES IN MY LIFE,

AND NOW I’M REAPIN’ WHAT I HAVE SOWED.

I’M DOIN’ MY TIME LIKE ALL THE REST

WAITIN’ ON MY PAROLE.

THOUGH I’M STILL LOCKED UP, I’VE BEEN SET FREE

BY THE BLOOD OF THE PRECIOUS LAMB.

WHEN JESUS CAME IN, HE FORGAVE MY SIN.

AND HE KNOWS WHO I AM.

THEY MAY KNOW MY NUMBER, BUT JESUS KNOWS MY NAME.

I MAY SPEND MY LIFE BEHIND THESE BARS,

BUT JESUS HAS LOOSED MY CHAINS.

FOR I’M A NEW MAN WITH A NEW HEART,

AND I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

THEY MAY KNOW MY NUMBER, BUT JESUS KNOWS MY NAME.

WHEN A SINNER REPENTS OF THEIR SIN,

AND CALLS UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD.

THEIR NAME IS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF LIFE

AS THE ANGELS ALL REJOICE.

SO IF THEY BURY ME ALL ALONE

WITH MY NUMBER ON A CROSS OF WHITE.

IT WON’T MATTER TO ME CAUSE I’LL FOREVER BE

IN HEAVEN, OH, SO BRIGHT.

                                 REPEAT CHORUS

SO IF YOU’VE MADE SOME MISTAKES IN YOUR LIFE,

AND YOU’RE REAPIN’ WHAT YOU HAVE SOWED.

IF YOU’RE DOIN’ YOUR TIME LIKE ALL THE REST,

WAITIN’ ON YOUR PAROLE.

THOUGH YOU’RE STILL LOCKED UP, YOU CAN BE SET FREE

BY THE BLOOD OF THE PRECIOUS LAMB.

ASK JESUS IN TO FORGIVE YOUR SIN,

AND COME TO KNOW THE GREAT I AM.

THEY MAY KNOW YOUR NUMBER, BUT JESUS WILL KNOW YOUR NAME.

YOU MAY SPEND YOUR LIFE BEHIND THESE BARS,

BUT JESUS WILL LOOSE YOUR CHAINS.

YOU’LL BE A NEW MAN WITH A NEW HEART,

AND YOU WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.

THEY MAY KNOW YOUR NUMBER, BUT JESUS WILL KNOW YOUR NAME.
